Nemetz (S/A) & Associates Launches Electrical Engineering & Lighting Design Office In Toronto

November 29, 2012

For more than 50 years the Vancouver-based electrical engineering firm of Nemetz (S/A) & Associates Ltd. has overseen the electrical aspects of many major and prestigious construction projects. Today Chief Executive Officer Steve Nemetz unveiled the company’s latest endeavour in officially opening its Toronto division at 214 King Street West, Suite 214.

“This is an exciting move forward for us,” says Nemetz, whose father, Arnold Nemetz, began the electrical engineering consulting business in the early 1960s. “This project has been in the works for a little while now, coming out of the Shangri-La project we recently did with Westbank. This seemed like the right time to continue to have a presence in Toronto with an office in the city, with personnel based in Toronto.”

Nemetz confirms the Toronto office will not only offer electrical engineering consulting services, but also a lighting design component through the company’s Lucent Design Lighting Group. Company Associate John Bayers has relocated to Toronto to add his expertise to the new venture.

Although the Nemetz brand was initially associated with electrical consulting services, in recent times the company has expanded to also offer security, communications, mechanical/plumbing and lighting design services.

“Fourteen years ago we created a lighting division within our office and from one person it has grown to a significant entity,” says Nemetz. “We now have four lighting designers who also have interior design backgrounds and are LEED certified. When we decided to introduce the engineering practice to Toronto we opted to include the separate entity of Lucent Design, which can take on projects tied to the engineering company while also being involved in work that may only have to do with lighting.”

Nemetz notes the move to establish an office in Toronto reflects his personal business philosophy to always look “to build a better mousetrap.”

“I enjoy this industry but I am always looking for ways to do things better,” he says. “Along the way we have picked up things from our work experience form various projects and in different places such as Hong Kong, the United States and parts of Canada. We have a lot of experience in high-rise residential developments, hotels, office, commercial and shopping centres. We can’t wait to show the people of Toronto what we can do.”
